Decrease Inflammation with Healthy Fats

Fat is so important for us. Our bodies need fat for many processes in the body including hormone regulation, energy, brain health, reducing inflammation and absorbing vitamins.
Increasing fats in a person’s diet alone can improve things like fertility, skin issues and feelings of well-being. We can get fat in our diets from a variety of sources. Fish, cod liver oil or omega 3 supplements, eggs, avocados, coconut, fatty meats, and full fat dairy. These foods are especially important for children who are still growing and developing.
I recently spoke to my staff team at work during a Health and Wellness training about Fats. There seems to be a lot of confusion when it comes to what is good fat and bad fat. For years people have been told to go ‘low fat’ and worry about their cholesterol. It’s hard to undo that propaganda.
It took some convincing to get them to see that butter, lard and ghee are preferred to margarine and vegetable oils. When it comes to vegetable oils, you want cold pressed olive oil and organic coconut oil instead of vegetable oils that are produced using a chemical process called hydrogenation.
Here are my top Healthy Fats:
1. Butter – I use on top of protein pancakes, with vegetables and sometimes just eat a slice!

2. Lard – I use in my deep fryer which I mostly use for chicken wings.

3. Ghee – This is clarified butter which I keep on the counter and use for cooking.

4. Olive Oil – I will used cold pressed organic olive oil mixed with balsamic vinegar and some spicy mustard for salad dressing.

5. Coconut Oil – So many uses, such as toothpaste, lip balm, moisturizer but also for making fat bombs and bulletproof coffee or in baking.
6. MCT oil - this is derived from coconut oil and is great for making bulletproof coffee. It can give you some energy for a workout or help you get through a period of fasting.
7. Avocado oil - this is another oil that you could use for salad dressings or on vegetables.
8. Tallow - this is fat from beef which you can either save from meat drippings or buy at health food stores. It can be used as a moisturizer on skin or for cooking.
9. Duck fat - this is a very tasty fat and again, can be purchased from specialty stores.
10. Fish oil - cod liver oil has been used for years by people as a natural way to boost immunity, improve skin conditions and boost brain function.
So there you have it. It is time to ditch that cheap vegetable oil you've been using for years and replace it with one of the above. This is guaranteed to lower the inflammation in your body and make you feel better!
